The Importance of Grassland Management

Did you know that grasslands cover 1/3 of the Earth’s landmass? These ecosystems are vitally important to a healthy environment. Research by the World Resources Institute found that grasslands absorb 34% of the carbon dioxide retained by plants. That’s almost as much as the 39% absorbed by all the world’s forests. Healthy grasslands are important and healthy grasslands require proper grazing of livestock.

American grasslands, including ours in the Rolling Plains of Texas, developed symbiotically with the animals that grazed them, like the vast herds of bison that once roamed the region. In the absence of that wildlife, livestock is a suitable substitute. Beef is an important part of a balanced diet, but it is also a vital component to managing healthy grasslands and building a healthier environment!
